This guy sounds like a real kook. Went to his site that was in the story and found that everything on his comments board dated back to 2003. I really think he is one of these religious cases where they use the Bible to justify beating their kids. Either that, and I rather doubt it, his whole deal is just a spoof.
His appointment slips sound ridiculous , along with so many of the other points he lists to tell parents what a proper spanking is.
As I have said, before I have very mixed, ambivalent feelings about parents using corporal punishment, lean toward "Against" for the most part.
But thats kind of beside the point here. His "One size fits all" approach is silly.Taking a hypothetical situation,saying that a parent has decided to use the paddle. One smack might get a 6 year old's attention. But for a 16 year old, it would either get taken as a joke, or produce anger and resentment for the humiliation. Better to take away the kid's ipod for a couple weeks!
I would like to relate another story from my youth. There was a family in my community where the father had a reputation for giving severe beatings and whippings to his kids. I went to school with some of them and remember one of the girls talking about how her father was "going to cut the blood out of her legs",speaking about what he was going to do to her older sister.
Seems one day dad went after his oldest teenage son to beat him. The son gives dad a fatal shotgun blast in the chest. And as I remember he was acquitted, doubtless in large part to the father's brutal reputation.
This was long before the present consciousness about child abuse.That certainly is something to consider if a parent decided to administer physical punishment to a teenager. They might decide to fight back!
