Some thoughts

Hi both,
Punishments may be made more realistic if time is taken to create the correct atmosphere first. A ‘sentence’ could usefully be declared some time previously, maybe even a couple of days in advance to allow time for reflection and apprehension to play their part.
One cannot understate the importance of a formal reading of the ‘riot act’ before punishment takes place, and a written statement comprising the infraction and the judicial punishment deserved would add an element of gravity to dispel fits of the giggles which threaten to ruin the desired atmosphere.
Acting to the instructions of another, maybe even an online and unseen mentor, has often been successful as both parties are free to follow orders releasing both from pressures that could otherwise affect realistic play.
Just a few thoughts that might be of use,
Above all have fun and prosper
