Congrats RG and sarah_thorne!

What an awesome weekend: RG and sarah_thorne tied the knot!

Not only was it mega-cool to see two great people who are so compatible become officially-official, but it was the niftiest wedding I think I've ever been to. For those who don't know, they are very active in US Civil War re-enactment, and that hobby became the theme of the big day. There were confederate soldiers and beautiful Southern belles all around -- not merely costumed, but authentically reproduced. It was really cool. The preacher and his wife were also outfitted, and if I understood correctly, even the timing of the wedding -- in winter, when fighting would taper off and soldiers could get away for a spell -- was based on the reality of the era.

The theme continued at the reception, where there was an ensemble playing period music and teaching period dances. That was really fun, albeit a bit dizzying. The food was yummy, the cake was delicious, the atmosphere was joyful, and the company was great. There was a small contingent of "our kind" tucked amongst all the family and friends, and it was really an honor to be part of their special day. Some of our menfolk even got decked out in authentic clothing courtesy of RG. We did ponder how we'd respond if anyone asked us how we knew the bride and groom, but fortunately I don't think it came up.

Of course, at the center of it all were our beloved Colonel and his new bride, both of whom looked just amazing in their respective outfits. He was all done up in his cavalry gear, looking all noble and dashing. Her dress was specially made and really defies description, just gorgeous, complete with authentic underskirts and a lace-up bodice and this beautiful cascading veil. A few of us had to help extract her from all that fabric later on, which I understand is also standard for that era!

I just can't say enough about what a great event it was, and also how honored I feel to have been a part of it. RG and sarah_thorne are two of my favorite people, and I'm just so happy for their union of love and devotion to one another. I hope you will all join me in congratulating the happy couple and wishing them many years of happiness together!

Hear hear. :)

I had the double honor this weekend of both escorting Adelina to this event and being one of the menfolk who got to wear authentic Antebellum clothing at the event on RG's behalf. Both were amazing honors to have. :) Every element of this wedding was meticulously planned out and carried out in perfect order. The ceremony, while surprising brief (only 25 minutes or so), was extremely touching. The bride and groom looked excellent in their outfits. The classical music played was well done. After the wedding, there was a saber ceremony which was very fun.

The reception was packed for most of the night. The happy couple did some waltzing which was a wonderful sight to behold. It took a while to make our way through the formal dances, but it was a fun challenge. The bride and groom actually had two cakes there, one traditional wedding cake and one set of four cakes that made up a civil war diorama that was just amazing to behold.

There were about six of "our folks" there including Adelina and myself, and we all made it a point to stay throughout the reception and pitch in where applicable, whether it was getting out on the dance floor in our outfits or hanging ceremonial flags in the reception hall.

All in all it was a perfect day and it couldn't happen to a nicer couple. RG and sarah have been extremely kind and gracious to me the entire time I've known them. They are truly wonderful people who deserve the happiness that they now get to share the rest of their lives.

I wish them both a long and happy marriage and once again thank Adelina for granting me the honor of escorting her to this event. It meant the world to me. :)
